About

  • Gallery LNL is a contemporary gallery in Sydney, Australia. Located in the vibrant cultural hub of Newtown since 1990, the gallery has had an intimate relationship with the ceramic medium, showcasing some of Australia’s preeminent ceramicists beginning from their early years. From 2023, under the directorship of Jinyoung Lee, LNL continues from a firm grounding in ceramics and embraces any and all mediums in which today’s artists work seriously and dynamically.

The guiding ethos of the gallery programme is collaborative intentions. Exhibitions are conceived around concrete and substantive ideas of enduring cultural significance such as notions of national and regional character, the development of cultural discourse and aesthetic traditions. Artists are encouraged to respond to these themes in the originality of their practice. The aim of this collaborative effort is to present coherent presentations which generate meaning beyond the sum of its individual components; presentations which draw forth new ways of seeing, and, expand the definition of, Australian art. By facilitating a space in which these projects can unfold, LNL seeks to contribute to a cultural discourse which moves beyond the art-world and into broader Australian culture.

Furthermore, LNL embraces the cosmopolitan spirit of the contemporary art world through regular participation in international art fairs. Likewise, exhibitions of international art are regularly featured in the programme to open space for authentic cross-cultural encounters between Australian and international artists.
