Gallery Lowe and Lee specialises in contemporary ceramics and aims to show the huge diversity and high standard of work made by members of the Australian ceramics community. This can be seen in translucent porcelain table lamps, rough textured woodfired vessels, large sculptural pieces and functional tableware that is a pleasure to use.
The gallery has been located at the northern end of King Street, Newtown in Sydney since the early 1990s, first at number 8, later moving to larger premises at 49 - 51. On the retirement of Irene Mura Schroder in 2007, Kerrie Lowe took over the business and was joined by Elisabeth Johnson in 2008. With Elisabeth retiring in 2022, Jin Lee had the opportunity to take over the gallery and join Kerrie the following year.
Our usual practice is to run two consecutive exhibitions, one in the Shopfront Gallery fronting onto King Street, and the other in the Small Gallery, usually reserved for one person shows. Many exhibitions are curated on a theme such as the annual Woodfire show featuring practitioners from around Australia. Another is the yearly Student Exhibition featuring graduating students from Universities and TAFE Colleges in Sydney; always a stimulating show.
