Overview
Booth J05

Gallery LNL is delighted to feature a presentation exploring the burgeoning influence of the Moon Jar within the discourse of contemporary art. Originating in 17th century Joseon Korea, the Moon Jar is a porcelain form distinct to the Korean ceramic tradition. Their generous, lightly asymmetrical body, with its unadorned, lustrous surface gives it its striking resemblance to the moon in full, giving its name. They are widely acknowledged as the foremost expression of the deep rooted, Korean aesthetic ideals of sincerity, emptiness and humane imperfection. As the quintessential Korean form, it continues to draw sustained interest from artists across mediums from painting to photography, who continue to grapple with the vessel's enduring cultural and aesthetic significance.

Featuring artists Kim Yikyung, Koo Bohnchang, Choi Youngwook, Kang Minsoo, Chung Miok and Han Yongmin, this marks the first time the distinctly Korean vessel and their inspired works by leading, internationally acclaimed artists are on view at an art fair in the Southern Hemisphere.
