  • Biography

    Chung Miok
Chung Miok (b.1960, Kyungsang, Korea; resides and works in Paju) is a multidisciplinary artist whose practice navigates the intersection of geometric abstraction, repetition, and existential inquiry.

Rooted in the conceptual framework of repetition, Chung's work abstracts the rhythms of daily life into a visual language of meticulously structured lines and patterns. Stripes, ubiquitous symbols of modernity and industrial design, serve as the foundation of her practice, reflecting the cyclical nature of human experience while simultaneously engaging with the rigid geometries of art historical discourse. In deconstructing these geometric codes, Chung reconfigures them into compositions that defy structural rigidity, introducing an element of play that subverts rational order.

Her ongoing Spacial Transition and Transition series articulate a fluid dialogue between absence and presence, movement and stillness, structure and spontaneity. Through an iterative process that embraces fragmentation and reconstruction, Chung interrogates the evolving relationship between materiality, perception, and memory.
