Send me more information on Suh Yongsun
Suh Yongsun (b. 1951) is among Korea’s most celebrated artists today. Born during the height of the Korean war, his practice diverges from the influence of the Dansaekwha (Korean Monochromaticism) movement prevalent during his formative years to form a highly original and striking palette. His iconic, bold brushstrokes encompass a stunningly wide range of subjects; the fables of the Goddess Mago, tragedies of King Danjong and bustling scenes of Harlem Barbershops are expressively brought to life across monumental paintings and sculptures.
Underlying this vast oeuvre is his deep, fundamental interest in humanity, determined to “see the world transparently, as it is”. Universal questions of human existence, motivations and actions are explored by an astute observer with undeniably Korean sensibilities.
