Sassy Park is a Sydney based artist interested in the history of art, linguistics and ideas. Known for her figurative and vessel works in clay, she explores themes of vulnerability and fragility, through a lens of historical ceramics, humor, and social commentary.
In this exhibition works are inspired by stories, observations and people she has met in Sydney. Expressed in clay and bronze, they echo the English 19th-century Staffordshire figures and ancient Greek terracottas that have continued to inspire her practice.
Using different clays, glazes and techniques the five pieces tell different parts of the artist’s Sydney memory; her mother’s Balmoral beach stories, lazy Saturday mornings in striped t-shirts, the changing nature of our social world and our social media.
Park studied painting at Sydney College of the Art later undertaking a masters in ceramics at National Art School in 2018. She is a finalist in the 2025 Archibald Prize and was the recipient of the 2024 Keramikkünstlerhaus scholarship in Neumünster, Germany and the 2022 Onslow Storrier studio residency at Cité Internationale des Arts, Paris, France. Park’s work is represented in national public collections including the Powerhouse Museum, Bathurst Regional Gallery, Manly Art Gallery and Museum and the Art Gallery of Ballarat.
