Sassy Park is a Sydney-based ceramicist whose interests in words and their meanings and the history of art and thought inform her figurative and vessel works in clay. Park explores themes of vulnerability and fragility through a lens of historical ceramics, humour and social commentary. Her sculptural works drive the mild manner of Staffordshire figures, which captured for the Victorian mantlepiece a placid inhabitance of contemporary social roles, into a poise perhaps better suited to our own age, somewhere between bewilderment and resolve.
Park studied painting at Sydney College of the Art later undertaking a masters in ceramics at National Art School in 2018. She is a finalist in the 2025 Archibald Prize and was the recipient of the 2024 Keramikkünstlerhaus scholarship in Neumünster, Germany and the 2022 Onslow Storrier studio residency at Cité Internationale des Arts, Paris, France. Her work is held in national public collections including the Powerhouse Museum, Bathurst Regional Gallery, Manly Art Gallery and Museum and the Art Gallery of Ballarat.
