Christine Thacker
Christine Thacker is an internationally renowned ceramic artist, beginning her pottery journey in the 1970s at the Cambridgeshire Pottery in England. During this time she learned electric firing and earthenware techniques that became the foundational knowledge of her pottery craft. Thacker has explored various ceramic forms throughout her career, believing each piece reflects her past creations, embraced aesthetics, learned lessons, and forgotten details. Her work for Small Pleasures aims to create an intense visual wallop. The work comprises of small stoppered pots with rich under and over-glaze pigments on some and condensed, automatic brushstrokes (doodles) on others. The imagery consists of ovals, circles, bars and triangles inspired by her long-term abstractions of trees and landscapes.
Thacker has had an expansive career, showing in various solo and group exhibitions globally. She has also been the recipient of various artistic achievements, including the 2013 winner of the merit certificate and the 2015 Premier Award from Auckland Studio Potters annual exhibition.
