"I have had a very long interest in making functional ware that people can handle, use and derive tactile and visual pleasure from. I have always been influenced by potters such as Bernard Leach who practiced the notion of self-sufficiency in pottery; in the recovery of raw materials and self-crafting of tools . Hence I like making my own glazes, and incorporate raw materials such as wood ash, natural bone ash and locally dug clays where possible. I very much admire traditional Japanese, Chinese and Korean ceramics. I find the interactions of their principal glazes- Tenmoku, Chuns and Celadons with flames and ashes to be both timeless and beautiful."
